Into the Great Divide

There’s that which we are, and that that we’ll be
And in between lies an ocean
Vast and deep, wave upon wave of
Unknowables set fast into motion

That seemingly endless pool of uncertainty laid out before us.

There in the distance, some worlds away
Glints a faint spark of light shining through
As we dare cross the shoreline and seas greet our feet
There comes knowing we dare pray to be true

That this journey will prove to mold us as if from clay,
a different shape taken, formed anew.

The question, then, is to wade or to hold,
to move forward with intention or turn back to safer shores
To stay moored or to drift,
to chance or play safe within rigid but well weathered walls
No, ours is a path not yet paved, no tale with ink set dry
The road stands forked before us, upon which choices lie

And choices be due their outcomes.

No strength without the losing
No glory without the blame
No dignity without derision
No honor without first shame

Yet our sails of ambition crave the winds of such sacrifice
The hulls of our hopes float on dreams of what yet may come

And so we step boldly. Into the great divide.
